A win over Galway has Limerick in pole position to qualify for the League semi-finals in second place in Division 1A.
A late Galway rally wasn’t enough to deny Limerick a deserved victory in the third round of the National Hurling League on Sunday afternoon in Salthill.
Limerick had led by as many as eight points heading into the final quarter of an hour but six on the trot from the Tribesmen pulled them back into contention before a brace from man of the match Tom Morrissey ensured victory.
The Ahane native finished with 0-8 with four coming from play, a pair in either half. Kyle Hayes once more bagged a trio from wing back with Cian Lynch finishing with as many. Peter Casey and Shane O’Brien both clipped over a couple in a positive afternoon’s work for the Shannonsiders.
Conor Cooney led the Galway fightback with 0-12 (9f) and was ably assisted by Thomas Monaghan who contributed three from play. But the writing was on the wall for the hosts who trailed by seven at the break with the late flurry putting a gloss on the final result.
