It’s been a sensational year for both Richie English and William O’Donoghue with both having played a major part of Limerick’s first All-Ireland success in 45 years. Now, they are set to lead out their respective club’s in the 2018 Limerick Senior Hurling Championship Final.
Na Piarsaigh are looking to continue their dominance of the SHC but Doon skipper Richie English is hoping that his side can come out on top of a contest that he is very much intending on enjoying. “We are looking forward to it,” he said in the lead up to Saturday’s final.
“It’s a big day for Doon and for everyone in the club. It’s a big challenge but we are looking forward to it. We know from playing Na Piarsaigh at underage and senior that they are a very experienced side and we are definitely going to be up against it.
“It’s been a funny kind of year with us being off for so long with Limerick. It took a few weeks to get back into it with training.
“It’s good to get back into things with the club and have really liked the role so far. Playing with fellas from your own parish and fellas that you have grown up with as well. It’s a great honour to play with those boys.”

O’Donoghue is hoping to lead Na Piarsaigh to their fifth ever Daly Cup but isn’t taking anything for granted. “Just because we are striving for it doesn’t mean that we expect it to happen.
“We work hard to put ourselves in these positions so that we can potentially do stuff like this. It’s not just that we dream about it or talk about it. Ultimately we try and back it up.
“I’m expecting an incredibly competitive game where the winning margin is going to be very small, whatever side it comes from.
“You have got two very competitive teams that have done well throughout the group stage. Our game against them in the first round was very even and I think this is going to be a very even game.”
