Shannon pick up vital win in 1A as Young Munster remain 4th despite defeat | AIL Round Up

It was a huge victory for last year’s 1B champions as they moved within two points of safety in the top division.

Shannon were the only Munster side to win in Division 1A of the All Ireland League as UL Bohemian caused a big shock in Division 2A defeating league leaders Queens University.

Despite a bonus point win on the back pitch at Thomond Park, Shannon still remain in the relegation zone despite their 43-17 win over Dublin University. Jordan Prenderville scored two tries for Shannon, Lee Nicholas, Luke Rigney, Dan Hurley and Daniel Okeke were their other try scorers. They were also awarded a penalty try and John O’Sullivan kicked three conversions.

Both Cork Constitution and Young muster remain in 3rd and 4th positions despite defeats in Dublin.

Young Munster lost 27-24 to Clontarf at Castle Avenue, a win that puts Clontarf back on top of the table. Stephen Lyons, Shay McCarthy, Jack Lyons, and Conor Hayes scored tries for Young Munster and Evan Cusack kicked two conversions.

Garryowen still remain adrift at the foot of the table after their 52-12 away defeat by UCD. Neil Cronin and Mark Donnelly scored tries for Garryowen and Tony Butler kicked a conversion.

UL Bohemian still remain bottom of Division 2A after their 31-19 home win over leaders Queen’s University but are now level on points with Dolphin.

Cashel and Dolphin shared the spoils after a 10-10 draw at the Spafield. James Ryan and Cormac O’Donnell scored tries for Cashel.

Nenagh Ormond moved above Cashel into fourth place after their 28-7 bonus point home win over Old Crescent. John Hayes (2), David Gleson, and John O’Flaherty were the Nenagh try scorers. Conor McMahon kicked three conversions, and Josh Rowland one. Jack O’Mahony replied with a try for Old Crescent and Ronan McKenna converted.

Division 2C leaders Instonians defeated Bruff 33-19 at Kilballyowen park to record their 13th successive bonus point win.
