Six Munster playes picked for Ireland U18 Sevens squad

The Ireland under 18 7’s side will take part in the tournament this coming weekend.

12 players have been selected for the Ireland Under 18 Sevens squad that will take part in the U18 Mens’s sevens Championship in Heidelberg Germany, with six Munster players involved.

Ireland have been drawn with Germany, Luxembourg and Georgia with a total of six countries being represented over the weekend which begins on the 8th September.

Academy player James Mccarthy along with Sub Academy player Kieran Dunne have been selected. Eoin Monahan, formerly of the Munster U18 schools side has been chosen with his CBC team mate Eoghan Barret.

Glenstal Abbeys Ronan Quinn will have to take time away from his Munster U18 school side to join the squad for the trip to Germany also. Also representing the County Limerick school is Quinns team mate Tim Duggan.

Jack Hunt of Rockwell college will also be taking part in the tournament, however he will be representing Germany over the weekend.

Mark Butler, Munster U18 schools coach believes the tournament will benefit the young players greatly

“This competition is a great opportunity for the lads to experience 7s at an elite level and the challenges that come with it.

“Though the players will be a loss for their respective interprovincial games, I believe that 7s offers a fantastic point of difference for players in terms of their long term development.

“This tournament served as an excellent development tool for Munster players involved last season, while also providing an extra platform for the national 15 a-side U18 and U19 selection.
