UL face LYIT in Sigerson Cup with quarter-final berth on offer

UL are Limerick’s sole representative in the Sigerson Cup.

The University of Limerick will be looking to replicate their win over Sligo IT this Tuesday as they take on Donegal opposition in the Sigerson Cup second round.

They face fellow round one winners LYIT on Tuesday afternoon in the Connacht Air Dome at 3.30pm.

The winners of the clash will advance straight to the quarter-finals of the competition while the losers face into round three.

The game will be streamed live by Higher Education GAA.

UL, who have never won the competition, put the rest of the field on notice last week when they destroyed Sligo IT in Castletroy.

David Clifford was amongst the goals for the University as they claimed a 4-15 to 0-7 win, their biggest ever victory in the competition.

Mayo’s Eoghan McLoughlin had their first goal from wing back before Paul Walsh, an All-Ireland minor winner with Kerry, bagged a double.

The Letterkenny college saw off the challenge of IT Carlow in round one, securing a 1-13 to 1-11 win with a late flourish.

The winners will receive a week off with the quarter-finals down for decision the week beginning Monday January 31.
