WATCH: Darragh O’Donovan and Pat Ryan reflect on Semi Final victory

After some agonising defeats at the penultimate stage of the Limerick SHC, Doon are into their first SHC Final since 2000 after defeating Patrickswell in the Gaelic Grounds yesterday. They will face Na Piarsaigh in the final after the reigning champions beat Kilmallock in the days second game.

On his return from injury, Darragh O’Donovan was instrumental for his side all afternoon. The midfielder carried his form for his county into the game and was one of the main differences between the side with his class evident throughout. For Donovan, there is still plenty to work on for his side ahead of their biggest game this century.

“We struggled there in the second half. We’ve a lot of work to do in the next two weeks, back to the basics, a bit of fitness to work on. Look we’ve work to do, we will be very much underdogs against whoever we’re playing in the final.”

“We’re going to play our own game. The only team that will beat us is ourselves. It’s 60 minutes of hurling, the better team will win. Finals are for winning and nothing else.”

His club and county teammate Pat Ryan led from the front, with his goal on twenty minutes proving to be decisive in the scheme of things. Ryan says he is thrilled to reach the final, a place none of his teammates have been before. After winning an All-Ireland title with Limerick earlier this year, Ryan epitomises just how important club hurling is to these players.

“We’ve never been there before, any of these players so. Last time they were there was 2000. This is only the third time ever this club was in one and haven’t won one yet. Even the fact that we’re there is a massive plus for the year… Just so happy to get to the final, you’ve no idea.”
