WATCH: Fr Casey’s Chris Smith hoping to get back to winning ways in Monaleen quarter-final

Ahead of Fr Casey’s Junior A Quarter-Final against Monaleen on Friday, we caught up with Chris Smith to preview the clash from his teams perspective.

Following a mixed bag of a group stage, resulting in both a win and a defeat, Casey’s will be looking for a strong performance against Monaleen, with Casey’s as slight underdogs.

Although they were ‘down a few bodies’ in the group stage, there’s hope to have a couple returning for the business end of the championship.

Speaking on the defeat against Newcastle West, Smith expressed a desire to turn the fortunes around.

“We were disappointed with the showing, a local rivalry as well. It’d look good to beat Newcastle West, top the group and keep the winning momentum going. We have to turn it around now.”

The narrative for the team stands at expectancy, following minor and under-21 grade successes but turning that into wins at senior level is an elusive feat.

Smith said that it’s about ‘showing up on the day,’ which has proven to be the sides downfall of late.

“This year, we’re hoping it’s going to be different. We’re fairly confident going into it and hopefully we will keep all the momentum going.”

Smith, himself is an injury doubt, facing a race against time ahead of the Monaleen game but he praised the brilliant footballers that are there from the panel to come on in his stead.
