WATCH: John Kiely on championship format, yellow sliotars and the importance of GAA

Incredibly, Limerick kick off their Munster Championship against Clare this Sunday at Semple Stadium, Thurles.

That tie with Clare brings a welcome return to competitive hurling for John Kiely and his squad as they begin a truncated championship with the game also doubling as a league final decider.

For Kiely, the importance of getting to play the games is not lost on him or his squad.

We want to play the 2020 hurling championship very much. The association has mirrored that determination to play the competition. We haven’t seen a championship cancelled in the history of the association and a virus hopefully isn’t going to stop the championship being completed this year, be it Limerick in the final or not in it. We want to do this for the wider public who are interested in the GAA.”

Ahead of Sunday’s tie, Kiely also spoke about the lockdown, yellow sliotars and the prospect of a winter championship.
