Limerick booked their place in the Munster Hurling final for the third successive year with a 2-22 to 1-17 win over Cork on Saturday evening in Semple Stadium.
With Cork two points clear after 25, they were awarded a penalty with Peter Casey sent to the bin.
Patrick Horgan stepped up and sent a bullet towards the corner but was denied by a brilliant reflex save from Nickie Quaid as a quickfire brace from Limerick completely turned the tide in their favour.
Speaking after the game, Limerick manager John Kiely identified Quaid’s penalty stop as a key point in his side’s win over Cork.
“We’re happy with the performance, it was real championship fare, and a real contrast to last year. The atmosphere was real, and the game ebbed and flowed.
“We had periods when we were in the ascendancy and they had their purple patches too, when they were causing us difficulty. Overall, though, I was very pleased.”
