As the Senior hurlers prepare for Clare on Sunday, Paul Beary’s Limerick U20 hurling team face into another period of uncertainty as their championship is put on pause.
On Wednesday, less than a week removed from their Munster semi-final against Cork on Monday, it was announced that the championship would be put on pause.
It is the second time this has happened for this group of players who would have originally be preparing for a July championship.
Speaking about the decision, Beary said,
“It was very disappointing. We had trained on the Monday night when the big announcement was being made nationwide. We went into that with a fair bit of trepidation but afterwards I suppose word reached us that we were good to go. That night they went ahead with the other semi-finals so it seemed positive.
I woke up on Wednesday morning to the news that it wasn’t looking good. There was some ambiguity throughout the day but then around lunchtime the GAA issued their tweet and that was that.”
However, Beary does not hold any hard feelings towards those in charge, despite the immense disappointment.
“It’s not ideal but there is an understanding and appreciation that these are unprecedented times and sport is no different to that. I understand how difficult it is for decision makers.
“To have got so close to the starting line and to have it swept away is a huge disappointment.”
