Na Piarsaigh will be looking for a third consecutive county title this year as they seek a sixth county championship this decade.
Since thier first ever triumph in 2011, the Caherdavin have been the team to beat, not only in Limerick but also in Munster, with the reversal at the hands of Ballygunner last November their first ever loss in the competition.
However, such is the standard of hurling in Limerick, complacency could prove costly for the champions with Thomas Grimes outlining how key taking it game-by-game will be.
“Obviously it’s in the back of people’s minds that it would be great to do three-in-a-row… But look we’re going to take it every game at a time and see where it takes us.”
First up for Na Piarsaigh is South Liberties who earned promotion to the top tier after finishing first in Group 2 last summer.
They will be keen to mark their return to the top table with a performance against the champions and Grimes isn’t taking anything for granted against the youthful city side.
“They’re going to be hungry and eager. They are a young side. They have plenty of youth and will bring a lot of energy.”
