“We’ve been waiting all year to get the championship started” | Bruff’s Aisling Enright relishing SCC season ahead

Bruff are joined by Newcastle West, Na Piarsaigh and Granagh-Ballingarry in Group 2

The Limerick Senior Camogie championship gets underway this weekend and Bruff face their toughest task in the opening round as they take on champions Newcastle West.

The two sides both met each other in the group stage of last year’s competition, with Newcastle West delivering the final dagger to Bruff ensuring they wouldn’t make it out of their group.

However, it’s been a year since the fixture and Bruff’s Aisling Enright is confident in her side’s ability for this year. Bruff’s league campaign was a mixed bag of results but with the return of their county players, Enright believes there’s a chance for Bruff to do well.

“We’ve been waiting all year for the championship to get started.

[referring to the league] “Mixed results. We’ve quite a lot of girls in with Limerick so a lot of our younger girls had to make the step up to that senior grade and get used to playing at that level. But now for the championship we’ll have those girls back.”

Speaking on their opening round fixture against Newcastle West, Enright had high praise for the champions but is also looking forward to the opportunity to see what position Bruff are in.

“They’re the best team in the county. They’re the level that everyone has to get to so it’ll be a good measure to see how we are in a way and hopefully we can do well we’ll see what performance we can bring and hopefully bring that onto the next two group games.”
