“We’ve got to knuckle down and improve another bit” | Doon manager Tadhg Hayes reflects on sides opening SHC results

Doon came out victorious by six points against Adare in the Limerick SHC second round this weekend.

Doon got off the mark in their 2022 SHC campaign in their second fixture as they beat Adare 1-20 to 1-14 last Friday.

The side came into the tie on the back of an unlucky defeat to favourites Na Piarsaigh, as Doon were headed for the two points until their opponents provided a late rally of scores.

But their fortunes changed last Friday as they finally chalked points on the board. The side were trailing early on after an Adare goal but they notched 1-7 in a ten-minute period that kept them at distance for the rest of the game.

Despite getting the victory, Doon manager Tadhg Hayes still believes his side can heavily improve and will need to do so if they look to get far in the SHC this year.

“We’ve got to knuckle down and improve another bit. I said to the lads they need to improve every game so we need to improve again for the next day.”

“We have a few lads involved in the football with Oola so they’ll obviously go back and the best of luck to those guys as well. But we’ve a positive thing going in the group, we’ve great numbers coming to training and everybody is putting a very good effort.”

Reflecting on last week’s defeat to Na Piarsaigh, Hayes believes that they, alongside Patrickswell and Kilmallock have been the ‘standard-bearers’ and his side must keep working hard to match their levels.

“Na Piarsaigh are a good team, they’ve been the standard-bearers in Limerick the last couple of years, themselves and Kilmallock and Patrickswell so we have to get up to their standards,”

“We’ve plenty to work on but we’re happy enough we’ve at least got two points on the board now.”
