The 2023 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship has drawn to a close with the men from Limerick once more the last left standing.
John Kiely’s all conquering side produced one of their best performances to dismantle Kilkenny in Croke Park and join the Cats in an illustrious group of four in a row winners.
The achievement will mean that Limerick will once more dominate the All-Star team of the year which will be announced at the end of the year.
The manner of their victory also hints at a strong chance of the Hurler of the Year gong staying on Shannonside.
Aaron Gillane is the front runner but his club mate, and current HOTY, Diarmaid Byrnes produced his best of the year in the decider while Kyle Hayes on the opposite wing was voted the Sunday Game Hurler of the Year.
Darragh O’Donovan was arguably the most consistent if not Dan Morrissey, whose brother Tom was Limerick’s standout player in the early parts of the season.
Outside of Limerick, Eoin Cody is the most likely winner but he was kept quiet in the final outside of his goal. Huw Lawlor will win an All-Star, was will Shane O’Donnell but the HOTY award seems out of their reach.
As such, it seems that the hurler of the year will reside in Limerick for the fifth time in six years.
