Three Limerick players named on Minor Team of the Year

Although their year ultimately ended at the All-Ireland semi-Final stage, 2019 was a positive one for Diarmuid Mullins’ Minor side as they claimed Munster honours.

Today it has been announced that three of that team have been named on the Electric Ireland Minor Hurling Team of the Year.

Monaleen’s Ronan Lyons is named at corner back while Patrickswell’s Patrick Kirby is named at midfield.

Kirby’s father Gary won four senior all-stars for Limerick in the 90’s.

The final Limerick representative on the team is Cathal O’Neill of Crecora after a string of sublime performances in the half-forward line from the teams vice-captain.

Overall this year’s Electric Ireland Hurling Team of the Year features six players from three time All-Ireland champions Galway, three players from All-Ireland finalists Kilkenny, three players from Limerick, two players from Clare and one player from Wexford.

The team was selected by a panel of GAA experts, including former Waterford Hurling Manager, Derek McGrath and Galway dual-star, Alan Kerins and was fed into in part by Electric Ireland’s ‘Player of the Week’ initiative on Twitter.

The panel will also select an overall Hurling Player of the Year whose name will be announced at the 2019 Electric Ireland GAA Minor Star Awards event.
