PREVIEW: Limerick travel to Waterford for Munster Championship quarter-final

After sealing promotion and the Division 4 League title last weekend, Billy Lee and his Limerick side are on the road again this weekend as they travel to the Fraher Field to take on Waterford in the Munster Football Championship quarter-final.

Limerick have a brace of wins over the Deise in Waterford already this year but this will be the biggest test to date as the Treaty will be looking to build on the League success.

After falling to Wexford in their first game back after the restart, Limerick were much improved in Sligo and lead from start to finish in Markievicz Park.

As such Limerick will be favoured to make it three on the trot in 2020 againts the Deise, despite their home advantage.

Limerick have beaten Waterford in their past four league meetings and haven’t lost to their Munster rivals in the championship since 1971.

Billy Lee will have a largely clean bill of health to work with after reintroducing Bob Childs to the fold against Sligo.

Danny Neville is still recovering from a hand injury and didn’t feature in either of Limerick’s last two league clashes.

After coming on at the half against Wexford, Killian Ryan, Tommy Griffin and Sean McSweeney all started against Waterford and are in pole position to retain their place in the starting XV.

Ryan’s inclusion allowed Iain Corbett to take up a more advanced position which he did to devastating effect.

Peter Nash was the other change to the team that began against Wexford with the Kildimo Pallaskenry man impressing in his 50 minutes on the park.

Waterford’s build up to this clash has been far from ideal as they lost by seven to Antrim last weekend in their only game since the lockdown.

They are without a Munster championship victory since 2010 and lost to Limerick in their last meeting in 2012, a 2-12 to 0-7 loss in the Gaelic Grounds.

But Billy Lee will be taking nothing for granted as Limerick aim for wins in successive Munster Football championships for the first time in a decade.

Limerick play Waterford in the Munster Senior Football Championship quarter-final on Saturday in the Fraher Fields at 7pm.
