Start Dates Confirmed for Limerick District League Season

The Limerick District League season will begin on Thursday August 12th following a ten month gap between fixtures due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The last junior soccer fixtures to take place were in mid-October 2020 due to restrictions relating to the Coronavirus and club members have been desperate to see action return. All games will kick-off at 6.30 unless otherwise stated.

On August 12th, the Premier Division and Division 1A will kick-off the campaign with one solitary game taking place in Premier A. Due to the constant restrictions, Janesboro are still current league champions as two seasons of football have passed by without local competitions being completed. Boro are now under the management of Daithi O’Donoghue who takes over from the recently departed Jason O’Connor. Boro’ will take on a Robbie Williams led Pike Rovers at Pearse Stadium.

Another competitive tie will see a changed Aisling Annacotty side take on Regional United in Annacotty. Shane O’Hanlon is at the helm at Annacotty and has lost the services of the likes of Conor Coughlan, Kennedy N’dip and Brian Butler ahead of the new season but has held onto the experience of the two Clarke brothers Thomas and Shane and Shane Tracy.

Prospect Priory will take on early season favorites Fairview Rangers at home in a bid to cause an upset. Wayne Colbert is the manager of the home side while Jason Purcell will once again manage the current FAI Junior Cup holders who will be bolstered by two competitive games in the FAI Senior Cup in recent weeks. The Fairgreen outfit put in a brave display in taking Airtricity League Premier Division side Finn Harps to extra-time before succumbing to a 0-3 defeat.

On Friday August 13th, Division 1B, 2A and 3A begin while Saturday evening sees the beginning of Premier A and Division 2B before the second round of fixtures begin on Sunday in what is always a test of mental and physical fitness for all players and managers but it will certainly be a welcome one following an enforced break and a prolonged pre-season campaign.
