Treaty United fall to UCD loss in the Markets Field | HIGHLIGHTS

Leon Kirrane would get fans off their seats a minute into the second, when his audacious overhead attempt went narrowly wide.

Treaty United winless run extended to eight League of Ireland First Division games when they suffered a 2-0 loss at home to UCD on Friday night.

A first minute goal from Mikey McCullagh was backed up by a second half Hugh Parker strike to give the college side all three points in the Markets Field.

The result leaves Treaty six points off the playoff positions in seventh, although they hold a game in hand on their rivals. UCD sit second in the table, seven points off leaders Cork City.

The Shannonsiders have now lost five of their last six First Division games, and are winless in eight. Their last victory came away to Kerry FC on March 1.

McCullagh opened the scoring in the very first minute of Friday night’s game, the 19-year-old unleashing a fine strike into the top corner of Corey Chambers’ net.

A plethora of half chances for both sides was all the first half could offer, but Leon Kirrane would get fans off their seats a minute into the second, when his audacious overhead attempt went narrowly wide.

Two failed clearances from the Treaty defence allowed Parker’s effort to dribble past Chambers for one of the poorest goals the Limerick side will concede this year. The visitors found themselves two goals to the good as we entered the final 20 minutes.

A flurry in the UCD penalty area would see Tommy Barrett’s men hit the crossbar ten minutes from time, but it was not to be for the Shannonsiders, as they failed to score for the fifth time this season.

Next up is the long trip to Donegal to take on Finn Harps, who are six points ahead of Treaty, having played a game more.

The tie is set to kick off at 7.45pm in Finn Park this Friday evening.
