UL on the road to Abbotstown as they take on Queen’s in Sigerson Cup semi-final

Limerick native Declan Brouder is the manager of the University.

Abbotstown is the venue as two giants of the Sigerson Cup meet in the quarter-final this evening at 7pm.

Competition favourites UL take on Queen’s University Belfast with a place in the last four on offer.

Brouder’s side have been in imperious form thus far, racking up 6-38 from their opening pair of games, disposing of Sligo IT and LyIT with relative ease.

David Clifford has top scored for the side with 3-12 from those two outings while Adare’s Paul Maher is the team captain.

UL are 7/4 to win the competition for the very first time while Queen’s can be got at 40/1. Yet, while UL are seeking a maiden title, Queen’s are eight time champions, putting them fourth in the Roll of Honour.

UL have only contested one final, that coming in 1997, but have been a force in the competition in recent years losing consecutive semi-finals to UCD in 2016/’17.

NUIG have already booked their place in the last four as they overcame LyIT 2-8 to 1-8 on Tuesday evening. So have MTU Kerry who have put the competition on notice with another strong win, this time seeing off Maynooth 4-15 to 0-7 to book their last four spot.

DCU meet UUJ at 5pm this evening in the other quarter-final.
