After another weekend of sporting action, these are the big results and headlines from across the world!
There was club hurling and football action across the country with All-Ireland hurling and football club champions Ballygunner and Kilcoo successful in their respective counties.
Munster were back in action with a pre-season fixture against Gloucester, Graham Rowntree’s first in charge of the side.
Treaty United were successful in the second round of the FAI Cup while the Premier League threw up some sensational matches, with Liverpool equaling a league record and Arsenal remaining top of the pack.
McIlroy was victorious in the FedEx cup once again, making history by being the first golfer to claim three.
Max Verstappen picked up where he left off as the F1 made its return this weekend with Red Bull securing a one two in the Belgian Grand Prix.

The fourth round in the Limerick Football Championships took place over the weekend with four sides sealing their place in the knockout stages of the SFC.
All Ireland hurling champions Ballygunner are into the Waterford SHC semi-finals after defeating Fourmilewater. They’ll face Roanmore with the other fixture being Mount Sion v De La Salle.
Defending champions Midleton have tumbled out of the Cork PSHC after the last round of group stage fixtures, finishing bottom of their group after losing to Kanturk.
Meanwhile, in football Templenoe have secured a place in the Kerry Senior Club Final for the first time in their history after defeating Dingle. They’ll face Kerins O’Rahilly in the final while All-Ireland club champions Kilcoo got off to the perfect start in the Down SFC with a victory over Clonduff
Rugby
Munster got their pre-season underway with a 19-28 defeat against Gloucester in Musgrave Park.
Graham Rowntree took charge of the side for the first time and his side fell 21-0 behind in the first half before mustering up a fight in the second half to bring the margin to only nine points at full-time.
Calvin Nash, Alex Kendellen and Ruadhan Quinn secured the tries for Munster as they prepare for their next fixture this Friday against London Irish.
Meanwhile, in the Rugby Championship, Australia got the better of South Africa while Argentina defeated New Zealand on Saturday. It was the first time that Argentina were victorious over the All-Blacks on their home turf. The win puts New Zealand coach Ian Foster under huge pressure as it’s three home defeats on the spin for his side.
Soccer
Treaty United are into the third round of the FAI Cup after cruising to victory away to Maynooth. Enda Curran. William Armstrong and Lee Devitt Molloy were on target for the Limerick side as they progress to the next round.
In the Premier League, Manchester United were able to string two successive league victories for the first time since February as a Bruno Fernandes volley got them over the line against Southampton.
Liverpool thumped Bournemouth 9-0, equaling the biggest victory in the Premier League with Brazilian Roberto Firmino starring in the display. Fellow Brazilian native Gabriel went from villain to hero for Arsenal as his 86th minute goal got the Gunners over the line against Fulham. The centre-back had gifted Fulham a goal earlier but was able to add to Martin Odegaard’s opener to give the north London side the win and remain top of the Premier League.
A Raheem Sterling brace was enough for Chelsea to secure a 2-1 win over Leicester while his former club Manchester City came from two down to beat Crystal Palace 4-2 with Erling Haaland bagging a hat-trick in just his fourth PL appearance.
Tottenham remain unbeaten after a comprehensive 2-1 win against Nottingham Forest while fellow Londoners West Ham got off the mark with a 1-0 win against struggling Aston Villa thanks to a Pablo Fornals strike.
High-flying Brighton got a narrow 1-0 win over Leeds with only two draws took place over the in weekend between Newcastle and Wolves as well as Everton and Brentford, both games ending 1-1.
The results leave Arsenal on top of the league with 12 points for 12 with Manchester City, Tottenham and Brighton making up the top four. Leicester City sit bottom and are yet to find a win this season.
Golf
Rory McIlroy was victorious in the FedEx cup once again, making it three for the Down man and becoming the first golfer in history to achieve the feat.
McIlroy finished the weekend 21 under par, just one shot ahead of Im Sung-Jae and world number one Scottie Scheffler.
Scheffler was the man to beat heading into Sunday’s eighteen, with McIlroy six shots behind the American. McIlroy ended the round with an impressive four under while Scheffler struggled and shot three over and allowing McIlroy to claim the prize.
Formula 1
Formula 1 returning can only mean one thing – Max Verstappen winning Grand Prix’s.
The Red Bull driver started the race in 14th, but was still successful in the Belgian Grand Prix with his team mate Sergio Perez finishing in second for an impressive Red Bull one two.
Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton was forced to retire in the first round after colliding with Fernando Alonso in the first-lap, making it his first retirement of the season.
Verstappen has one hands on the Drivers’ Championship this season already with 9 wins and 284 points, just win off his total from last year while Red Bull sit on 475 points in the Constructor’s Championship, 118 points ahead of second placed Ferrari.
