Cian Lynch voted GAA.ie Hurler of the Week

The Limerick centre-forward picked off a score in either half and was a key part of everything the Shannonsiders did well in the league semi-final.

Cian Lynch has been the GAA.ie Hurler of the Week after helping Limerick into the National Hurling League final. The Patrickswell native beat off Tipperary’s Alan Tynan and Kilkenny’s Billy Drennan to the award.

In their first NHL semi-final since 2019, Lynch was integral in seeing off a spirited Tiperary side that led by four at the break. The Limerick centre-forward picked off a score in either half and was a key part of everything the Shannonsiders did well with his second a thing of beauty.

The Limerick star received 4,356 votes on the on the GAA’s official Instagram page which put him ahead of Kilkenny’s Billy Drennan (3,264) and Tipperary’s Alan Tynan (3,146).

The two-time Hurler of the Year is the second Limerick player to win the Hurler of the Week award this year with Tom Morrissey getting the same prize following their win in Salthill in Galway.

Morrissey was named on the team of the week for the third time in four weeks and was one of seven on the team of the week alongside Lynch, Nickie Quaid, Sean Finn, Barry Nash, Declan Hannon and Peter Casey.

Lynch and co will next be in action on the weekend of April 8/9 where they will meet Kilkenny in the National Hurling League final. They will begin then the defence of their Munster championship on April 23 against Waterford in Semple Stadium.
