Limerick look to conclude Tailteann group stages with third successive win

Wicklow have lost to both Carlow and Longford, and have already been eliminated from the competition, meaning both sides have nothing to play for.

Limerick and Wicklow will meet on Portlaoise on Sunday as they contest the final round of the Tailteann Cup. Limerick have won both their games this year, beating Longford by three points before powering past Carlow last time out. As a result, Mark Fitzgerald’s side have already booked their place in the quarter finals.

Wicklow have lost to both Carlow and Longford, and have already been eliminated from the competition, meaning both sides have nothing to play for.

While the teams may have nothing to play for competitively, the game should still prove to be entertaining, with Wicklow playing for pride at this stage, while Limerick will wish to build momentum as they look towards the quarter finals.

Mark Fitzgerald has named his team for the clash, and the Kerry man has gone with a strong side, only making four changes to the team that impressed against Carlow. Paul Maher, who got a goal the last time out, has not been included for this one.

James Naughton and Peter Nash made sizeable contributions against Carlow, combining for twelve points, and they are joined in the full forward line by Hugh Bourke, who has impressed from the bench recently.

Wicklow struggled to ever get their Tailteann Cup campaign truly underway. A one point loss to Carlow in their opening round will have deflated them, and they went on to get dismantled by Longford, losing 3-17 to 2-9. If anything, The Leinster will be playing for pride in Portlaoise on Sunday but Limerick are one of the form teams and will be keen to keep up momentum.

Limerick take on Wicklow in the third round of the Tailteann Cup in O’Moore Park on Sunday, throw in 1pm.
