The forward put in a huge shift as Limerick won their fourth Liam MacCarthy in five years.
Gearoid Hegarty has been awarded the final GAA.ie Hurler of the Week award following his instrumental role in Limerick’s All Ireland Final win against Kilkenny.
Hegarty notched 1-5 from play, including a goal worthy of winning any competition in just the 4th minute, Limerick’s only goal in the game.
The St. Patrick’s man was the difference-maker for Limerick and was also named Man of the Match as they fought off a Kilkenny side who showed no sign of backing down.
The votes were a landslide in Hegarty’s favour, as he received 10,400 of the public votes, beating out his team-mate Diarmaid Byrnes who ended on 4,344 and Kilkenny’s Huw Lawlor coming third with 3,242 of the votes.
It’s the first time this season that Hegarty has been awarded Hurler of the Week, with his team-mate Aaron Gillane being the previous winner after his semi-final performance against Galway.
His performance puts him in with a shout for Hurler of the Year, with his 2-16 in the championship this season playing a pivotal part in Limerick’s success this season.
