The two-time hurler of the year missed the majority of the 2022 campaign with a hamstring and then ankle injury.
Cian Lynch’s return from injury is on the radar as Limerick manager John Kiely provided an update on the Patrickswell man after their first outing of 2023 on Sunday afternoon.
Limerick were beaten by a solitary point by Cork in Pairc Ui Rinn but Kiely handed out seven debuts with the majority of the All-Ireland winning team rested.
When asked about the status of the two-time hurler of the year who missed the majority of last year’s campaign, Kiely issued a positive update.
“Cian is doing really well. He trained throughout the block of work we have done. And his recovery is pretty much what I would call complete at this stage. He is like everyone else and just getting on with his work. Very happy with his work, thankfully.”
Mike Casey was another absent from the squad with the Na Piarsaigh man injuring himself in their Munster Club semi-final against Ballygunner in November.
However, after a torried two years with injuries, Kiely says the latest setback for Casey isn’t as bad as initially feared as they expect to see him back in contention with rehab “going really well.”
“Mike is doing really really well. Initially, we were fearful that it might have been a more serious injury but thankfully it wasn’t. He had to have a minor procedure and that went really well. His rehab is going really well. That’s all on track so we are happy with that.
And overall Limerick are reporting a clean bill of health with Kiely pleased for the break after a tough run of injuries en route to the All-Ireland final in 2022 as he said,
“At the minute, health-wise we are in a good place so long may that last, we had enough of it last year.”
Next up for Limerick is a clash with Kerry this week with the League kicking off against Cork in Pairc Ui Chaoimh on February 5.
