Limerick have hit the ground running this year and will be looking for a sixth successive win this Sunday that would secure the title.
After Limerick’s round three Allianz National Hurling League win over Galway in Salthill, Man of the Match Tom Morrissey was interviewed by TG4 where he laid out his spring ambitions with the Ahane man desperate to add to his previous two titles.
Despite winning the last three All-Ireland’s on offer, and four of the last five, Morrissey isn’t taking any success for granted with the mentality, “get as much as you can while you can.”
That mindset has seen Limerick show glimpses of their best during the league, winning five on the trot ahead of this weekend’s match up with Kilkenny in Pairc Ui Chaoimh,
Morrissey, who teamed up with Allianz Insurance ahead of the Allianz Hurling League Division 1 Final, highlighted the importance of the league to players.
“I see where people are coming from when it comes to July and you’re talking about who’s going up the steps then but as a player, we only really have four competitions every year, pre season Munster League competition, Allianz National League, Munster and All-Ireland championship so you only have four chances of getting medals every year and I’m of the view of get as much as you can while you can. That goes for any game you’re in, you want to win. It’s a national medal and national title and you want as many of those as you can.”

It will be a first league final for Limerick since 2020 when their Munster Championship quarter-final with Clare behind closed doors doubled up as the Spring decider following the onset of the pandemic.
The previous April, Limerick ended a 22-year wait for League honours with victory over Waterford and Morrissey is looking forward to their latest final appearance.
“Yeah, definitely looking forward to it as a team and an individual. Playing in a final and with silverware on stake, it’s not going to be a bad day when looking forward to things like that.
Limerick completed a historic three-in-a-row of All-Ireland titles last July but their summer form was in stark contrast to that of the league where they picked up just one victory.
Opening round defeats to Wexford, Galway and Cork were followed by a draw with Clare before Morrissey and co eventually got the W against Offaly in their final game.

This time around, Limerick have hit the ground running and will be looking for a sixth successive win this Sunday that would secure the title.
Crediting the bank of work done prior to Christmas, Morrissey says they are rearing to go for the Allianz Final.
“A lot of people have been talking about that, we must have been going awful bad this time last year! We went back a bit earlier this year and that’s probably standing to lads at this time of the year so maybe just three/four weeks ahead of where we were this time twelve months ago which is good. I know as a player, I love that feeling of having the work done.
“Things are going well so just looking forward to the League final on Sunday!”
Whichever way it goes, it will be an early strike for two of the leading contenders for this year’s All-Ireland final.
Tom Morrissey teamed up with Allianz Insurance today to look ahead to the upcoming Allianz Hurling League Division 1 Final this weekend. Kilkenny and Limerick have met in five previous Allianz Leagues finals, with Kilkenny winning three to Limerick’s one, while one was drawn. Their most recent meeting was 17 years ago when Kilkenny won by six points.
