“It’s good for the club to be back in a football final” | Na Piarsaigh’s Dylan Cronin reflects on IFC campaign ahead of final

The Caherdavin side were relegated from the Senior Football Championship last season after falling to Galbally.

Na Piarsaigh have the opportunity to return to the Limerick SFC at the first time of asking when they face Dromcollogher Broadford in the IFC Final this Saturday.

The side suffered the drop after losing the relegation final to Galbally twelve months ago, but have responded well at Intermediate level.

Four wins and a draw in the group stages, including a pair of walkovers, on top of a narrow semi-final victory over Mungret has presented the side with a chance to return to the height of Limerick club football but Na Piarsaigh’s Dylan Cronin admits it was tough for the side after their relegation.

“When we got relegated it was tough and we were kind of there or thereabouts for two or three years but this year we had a lot of young players through and I said it back in June that they would need some game time and the group of five games would be great and ironically we only played three games.

“It’s great to bring some new players into the panel, so you can see it’s starting to come back together now and it’s good for the club to be back in a football final.”

Dromcollogher Broadford are a familiar face for the City side, with the two facing each other a number of times at Senior level, with their last encounter ending in a relegation semi-final victory for Na Piarsaigh back in 2020.

The West side went on to be relegated with Na Piarsaigh eventually joining them a year later.

Cronin is aware of the threat that their opponents possess from playing the side often and anticipates a tough battle in Askeaton on Saturday.

“I think we were in nearly every group game when we were back in senior, so yeah good tough few battles, we all kind of know each other.

“It’ll be a tough battle, we know what we’re going into, they probably know what’s facing them so yeah, looking forward to it.”
