Cian Sheehan misses out as Kerry & Galway dominate 2022 PwC All-Star football team

The Newcastle West native was just Limerick’s second All-Star nominee in the last decade.

Limerick’s sole All-Star football nominee Cian Sheehan has missed out on the illustrious award as the Football Team was revealed this morning.

Sheehan faced stiff competition in the half back line where all three selected featured in the All-Ireland final with Kerry’s Tadhg Morley and Gavin White chosen either side of Galway’s John Daly.

The Newcastle West native was Limerick’s first nominee since 2020 when his clubmate Iain Corbett was among the 45-man shortlist. The previous nominee from the Treaty County was John Galvin back in 2010.

Kerry dominate the selection with seven players chosen including Footballer of the Year favourite David Clifford. He is one of four players receiving at least their second award with the Fossa man now on four. His brother Paudie collected his second, as did Sean O’Shea while Dublin’s Ciaran Kilkenny picked up his sixth.

Kerry have seven chosen in total, while All-Ireland runners up Galway have five. Three from Derry were selected alongside Dublin’s sole representative.

No player who didn’t feature in the semi-finals makes the cut.

For Sheehan, attention will turn to November 6 and a date with Adare as they seek to retain their Limerick SFC title for the very first time as they do battle in a repeat of last year’s final.
