It’s the first time in four years that Ahane got their hands on the Limerick Senior Camogie Title.
Ahane were crowned Limerick Senior Camogie champions for the first time since 2018 following a 1-13 to 1-9 victory over Killeedy in Ballyagran yesterday.
It was a tight encounter between the two teams with only one point separating the two at half-time but the East Limerick side began to pull away from the 2020 champions in the second half with Niamh Mulcahy notching nine of their scores.
Aisling Scanlon pulled a goal back for Killeedy but it was a mere consolation in the end as Ahane saw out the remaining minutes to seal a vital win.
After the match, joint-captains Noreen Flanagan and Judith Mulcahy reflected on their title-winning season with the former summarising the pain they’ve endured during the year, praising her team-mates after their performance.
“It’s phenomenal. It’s been a long year but it’s worth all the pain, all the training, the effort, we’ve a great panel and it really showed there today, it’s just pure (ecstasy) now to win that.
“We didn’t panic and that’s the thing, we’ve great communication throughout the whole team. We kept tipping away winning all the frees, getting our scores and working it up the field, there was no such thing as panic.”
Muclahy, who was awarded Player of the Match for her stalwart display at centre-back, detailed some of the struggles that they’ve been through this year regarding facilities and their stop-start season.
The Ahane star nonetheless highlighted that the final win was the most important thing.
“It was pretty difficult all round, I think every week we kind of thought we were having a match so we’d taper down our trainings so we just had to try to keep as focused as we could.
“We’ve no lights in Ahane so we’d a disaster trying to get pitches, even as close to Thursday night we went up to Doon and the lights went on us! But the management have just kept trying to keep us focused and some circumstances were out of our control but it’s grand once we won today.
