Senior & Intermediate Ladies Football finals set for Gaelic Grounds this Sunday

It will be a seventh successive final for the West Limerick side who have claimed four titles in that time while Ailbes triumphed in the others during that timeframe.

We are down to the finals in both the Senior and Intermediate Ladies Football championships, with Monagea and St Ailbe’s set to battle in the top tier decider. Galtee Gaels take on Murroe Boher before hand in a bid to win promotion to the top tier.

The senior final is a repeat of last year’s decider where Monagea retained their title with a 1-10 to 1-7 victory. That was their fourth ever success in the Limerick Ladies SFC as they would go on to contest the Munster final.

St Alibes remain the last team to overturn Monagea, defeating them in the 2020 SFC final which was a repeat of the ’19 decider, Alibes also coming out on top in that game to dethrone the champions.

Incredibly, it will be a seventh successive final for the West Limerick side who have claimed four titles in that time. Ailbes triumphed in the others in that timeframe.

Following an impressive group campaign where they missed out on the semi-finals by scoring difference, Monagea defeated Dromcollogher Broadford by the minimum to earn a spot in the last four. Last Friday night, they ran out seven point winners over Oola in the semi-final, with the game originally postponed due to bad weather.

Last year’s finalists St Ailbe’s picked up a four point win over Ballylanders to book their place in the showpiece event this Sunday. Previous to that, they showed their merits with a 4-7 to 1-8 win over Old Mill in the quarter-final, and are a side well capable of scoring goals.

Interestingly, Ballylanders and Oola topped their respective groups to qualify directly to the semi-finals, but both were overturned in the semis with the pre championship favourites to meet once again.

Throw in this Sunday is 3pm in the TUS Gaelic Grounds.

In the curtain raiser, the Intermediate championship, Galtee Gaels are set to take on Murroe Boher in the final at 1pm.

In their first year in the grade after winning the Junior title, Galtee Gaels needed a replay to book their final spot having drawn their semi with Mungret St Pauls. Extra time was required in the replay but in the end it was the Gaels who outlasted their City rivals to book their final berth.

Murroe Boher were the first side into the decider, putting a pair of goals past Knockainey to ease their way into the semi-finals.
