Limerick camogie side continue 100% start with win over Clare in Gaelic Grounds

Declan Nash’s Limerick camogie side made it two from two in this years National League on Saturday evening with a 1-14 to 0-10 victory over Clare in the Gaelic Grounds.

Limerick started the game with three scores inside the opening five minutes from Caoimhe Costelloe, Deborah Murphy and Caoimhe Lyons.

However, four successive frees from Clare nudged them back in front.

Karen O’Leary and Niamh Mulcahy nudged Limerick back in front 0-6 to 0-4 but Limerick would not score for the next 17 minutes as Clare regained the lead.

Niamh Mulcahy’s score on the stroke of half time brought the sides level once more at 0-7 a piece as the first half came to a close.

Clare took the lead with the first score of the second half but that was to be as good as it got for the Banner with Limerick turning the screw.

Two pointed frees from Mulcahy were followed by a Sophie O’Callaghan goal as Limerick opened a four point lead, 1-9 to 0-8 with 25 minutes remaining.

Further points from Mulcahy, O’Callaghan and Rebecca Delee made it 1-6 without reply for Limerick as the game approached the final quarter.

Clare did stop the rot with a free late on before Mulcahy rounded off the scoring for Limerick with her eight score of the game as the game ended 1-14 to 0-10.

Up next for Limerick is a clash with Dublin in a fortnight’s time.
