Limerick fall to heavy Kerry defeat in McGrath Cup

The Kingdom put 6-18 on the board in Mick Neville Park, with the home side only able to muster up 0-11 of their own in response.

Jimmy Lee’s reign as Limerick Senior Football manger started with a heavy defeat, as Kerry showed no mercy in the McGrath Cup on Saturday afternoon.

The Kingdom put 6-18 on the board in Mick Neville Park, with the home side only able to muster up 0-11 of their own in response.

Lee was dealt his first blow before the game even began, with captain Iain Corbett being replaced by Tommy Griffin.

The Shannonsiders faced a tough task with this Kerry side, and the loss of a player of Corbett’s calibre made things even harder.

The visitors impressively managed to post 5-10 in the first-half alone, heading into the interval with a 19-point advantage.

The Kingdom made a host of changes at the break, but their dominance continued into the second-half, as they closed out a professional performance.

A tough day for Lee’s men no doubt, but players were able to get minutes under their belts, as Limerick used 26 players during the game, 12 of which were making their first senior appearances for their county at competitive level.

The Shannonsiders are back in McGrath Cup action this Sunday, as they face Tipperary in Templetuohy.
