Limerick Hurling Team of the Decade: Midfield

The decade that was 2010-2019 is fast coming to an end.

For the Limerick hurlers, it was a mixed decade that started with a protest but would ultimately deliver a first All-Ireland title in 45 years.

Overall, Limerick won one All-Ireland title, Two Munster Championships, a Division 1 League Title and A Division 2 League title.

Over the next fifteen days in the lead up to Christmas, I will select my team of the decade that saw Limerick play 40 championship games and 68 League games.

Already we have had our Goalkeeper;

Right Corner Back, Full Back & Left Corner Back,

Right Half-Back, Centre Back & Left Half Back

Today we look at the first of our Midfielders.

Honours: All Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, Munster Senior Hurling Championship, Division 1 League Title, 2x U21 All Ireland Hurling Championships, 2x Munster U21 Hurling Championshisp, 2x Munster Minor Hurling Championships, Senior All-Star, 2x U21 All-Star, All Stars Hurler of the Year.

Limerick’s first Hurler of the Year since 1973, Cian Lynch has been nothing short of spectacular for Limerick since he made his minor debut as a 16-year-old in 2012.

He was Man of the Match in his Senior debut in 2015 as he put Clare to the sword in a dazzling display.

He followed this up with All Ireland U21 wins in 2015 and 2017.

However, his move to midfield in 2018 saw him reach new heights, helping Limerick to the All-Ireland and being honoured as the best hurler in the country that year.

His ability in rucks and tight spaces on the pitch are unrivaled and at only 23 years of age, there is plenty of more to come from the Patrickswell man.
