LISTEN: Adare maintain perfect record and NCW also reach last four

Newcastle West booked their place in the semi finals of the Irish Wire Products Limerick Senior Football Championship and Adare made it five wins from five by beating St Senans.

The Martin Horgan managed NCW outfit saw off St Kierans on a 0-15 to 1-10 in Knockaderry. Newcastle West led by three points at the break but a Darragh Treacy goal late on brought a previously unbeaten Kierans side back into the contest.

The teams were level going into the final stages but Newcastle West knocked over two late points to seal their place in the semi final.

Adare were pushed all the way in their game with St Senans, with Mikey Lyons’ 3-2 helping them to a 3-9 to 2-11 win.

Playing into a strong breeze in the first half, Adare went in at the break 0-7 to 0-4 ahead. St Senans’ cause wasn’t helped when they were reduced to 14 men just before half time as Richard Hayes was shown a straight red card.

However, they came out in the second half with all guns blazing and reduced the deficit to one point when Sean McSweeney sent over his fourth and fifth points of the evening.

Adare stemmed the tide with three Lyons goals in the space of six minutes but Senans rallied once more with Darren Lawlor and Darren Kavanagh goals. Adare held on though for a one point win.

Elsewhere, Ballysteen, Ballylanders and Monaleen joined St Kierans in the quarter finals with victories over Fr Casey’s, Na Piarsaigh and Drom-Broadford.

Oola kept their senior status in tact with victory over St Patrick’s on Friday night. As a result, it will be an all city relegation playoff between Na Piarsaigh and St Patrick’s.

After their victory against St Senans, Adare manager Harry Gleeson and full back Aodhan O’Connor spoke to Sporting Limerick. Listen below to hear their post game thoughts.
