John Tuohy – “If we beat them it puts us in a strong position”

John Tuohy’s Limerick senior camogie side face into a massive game with Wexford this Saturday as the Munster Champions look to book a place in the quarter finals of the All Ireland Championship.

A disappointing start to group 2 means that Limerick must win the game to secure a place in the next round, and can guarantee a place by winning by more than 7 points. Tuohy says the main thing is to beat Wexford and hope that everything works in their favour after that.

“There’s a lot of permutations but the most important thing is we’re preparing to take on and try and beat Wexford, if we beat them then we have 6 points in the bag, it puts us in a strong position and you hope everything falls into place after that”

Limerick have been inconsistent in the group stages following a strong showing in the Munster Championship and Tuohy believes that his side must perform well this Saturday to get the all-important win.

“The 15 on the field must perform, if they perform like they did against Tipperary, or like against Cork in the Munster Final I think we’re in with a very good chance of qualifying.

You look for a performance first, start with the small things and they become the big things.

Wexford face into a long trip to Bruff for the game, the Limerick manager will hope to take advantage of this and says that a fast start from his side will be crucial.

“The real thing for us is to take the game to Wexford, they have to travel three hours to come to Bruff, so we hope to take them on as early as possible and take the game to them and put them on the back foot. If we can do that as we’ve done to other teams then we have a good chance of winning the game,”

Limerick will also hope that their star performer Niamh Mulcahy is on song in Bruff this Saturday, the captain hit a phenomenal 15 points in the win over Tipperary last time out, and is currently the third top scorer in the competition.

Throw in this Saturday is at 5.30pm. You can listen to the full audio of John Tuhy’s pre match thoughts below.
