LISTEN: Ollie Moran “Limerick trusted themselves and backed the process”

In the first of our Monday morning hurling reviews Sporting Limerick and former Limerick hurler Ollie Moran join forces to bring you Moran on Mondays.

We look back at yesterday’s epic in Semple Stadium, examine where it went right for Limerick and look ahead to Cork.

The win was Limerick’s first over Kilkenny since the 1973 All Ireland Final and signalled the arrival of John Kiely’s side as serious Liam McCarthy contenders. Moran says that Limerick’s response to the Kilkenny goal was hugely significant.

“Limerick racked up the next four points and they were very well constructed scores, they were intelligent scores and I think that says a lot about a really young team like Limerick that they had the peace of mind, the trusted themselves, they backed the process and worked the ball in to really good scoring positions.

“That’s something maybe we are not used to in Limerick, because we have always played on the passion card and were are nearly kind of used to getting the sucker blow, fading away and having the moral victory.

“That team could have just stopped hurling at that point and said we have given it our all, we have played well, we’ve had a good season but instead they kicked on and they have done that all year.”

Cork on Sunday July 29th in Croke Park is next on the horizon as Limerick look to get back to a first All Ireland Final since 2007 and go one better that the ’07 crop of players.

“Cork are coming down the track, Cork as coming in as Munster Champions. They have really kicked on themselves even since the Limerick game and they are a very different proposition and we need to be aware of that.”
