My heart goes out to the Limerick squad after the defeat to Kilkenny. I am also very mindful not to be very critical of them because I know what it’s like to lose a major game.
It’s not a nice feeling, especially when you don’t do yourself justice as a squad. In the first 20 minutes, the savagery and ferocity that Kilkenny came at Limerick wasn’t expected.
I also think that the Brian Cody factor was huge on top of that. I’m guessing here, but I think he is possibly in his final year and I’d say they will want to send him out on a high and I reckon that could have been huge motivation for him as well.
We were playing catch up from an early stage. It was all Kilkenny for the first 10 to 15 minutes.
Ok, it’s very easy to look at the wides and the line ball near the end, but I don’t think that any of that would even come into play if our game was in Croke Park on Saturday.
That’s sport. It throws up performances like that at times. The big positive is that the squad is extremely young.
They are definitely good enough to bounce back. It’s a huge learning for everybody.
