Both sides will be in provincial Ladies Football final action this weekend in Mallow.
Munster Ladies Football honours will be on the line this weekend when Monagea and Oola participate in the Intermediate and Junior Finals respectively.
On Sunday afternoon at 11am in Mallow, Monagea take on Tipperary champions Mullinahone. Oola meanwhile take on Naomh Abán on Saturday evening at 5pm in the same venue. Ballymacarbry face Banner in the Senior final on Sunday afternoon in Mallow.
Limerick Senior champions Monagea will be seeking to go one better than last year when they were defeated by Castleisland Desmonds in the decider. That remains their only loss in county or province since the start of the 2021 season.
They retained their Limerick title with a series of wins as they saw off Old Mill, Drom Broadford and St Brigids in the group stages before a titanic tussle with Ballylanders in the county semi-finals. They then avenged the county final losses of 2019 and ’20 against St Ailbes to retain their crown in late September.
In the Munster quarter-finals, the Martin O’Sullivan managed side proved too strong for Dr Crokes with a 4-8 to 1-11 win in Killarney. That set up a provincial last four tie with Fergus Rovers of Clare where the West Limerick side were once again dominant in claiming a 0-11 to 0-4 victory and a second successive spot in the Munster final.
Twelve months ago, the Limerick side fell just short as a late goal was enough for Castleisland Desmonds to snatch victory and deny Monagea.
Limerick Intermediate champions Oola will look to kickstart the weekend with a win for the Treaty county when they also travel to Mallow to take on Cork’s Naomh Abán.
After defeat in the Limerick final in 2021, Oola responded in style in October as they saw off Knockainey where a pair of Amy Ryan goals proved decisive in a 2-9 to 1-6 final victory.
Following their county success, Oola were drawn away to Kerry’s Firies in the Munster Junior semi-final. A blistering first half where the East side hit the net four times had them cruising at the interval as they ran out 4-11 to 0-8 winners.
Their Munster final opponents Naomh Aban have also shown an eye for goal as they kicked four in their Cork Championship win over O’Donovan Rossa. In their Munster semi-final, they beat Comeragh Rangers 2-10 to 0-6.
It will be a tough task for both sides but the form guide is positive with a provincial success overdue.
