TUS fall in Fitzgibbon Quarter-Final as GMIT march into last four

UL are Limerick’s sole representatives in the Fitzgibbon Cup semi-finals.

GMIT proved too strong for TUS MidWest as the hosts saw off the Limerick side to advance into the Fitzgibbon Cup semi-finals.

In the end, the margin was seven as the Galway side won on a scoreline of 1-19 to 1-12.

The sides were level at 0-3 apiece after seven minutes before GMIT hit a purple patch. The hosts had six successive points to give them daylight after a quarter of an hour.

TUS replied but the key score came on 20 minutes with the Galway side finding the net for a 1-10 to 0-5 lead. That lead was maintained until the half.

Successive scores to start the second half pushed GMIT further clear but a Kian O’Kelly goal with fifteen to play gave the limerick college some hope.

Robin Mounsey had the deficit back to six with ten to play but TUS wouldn’t score agaiin until injury time as the hosts kept the scoreboard ticking.

They now advance to play the winners of NUIG and WIT in the semi-finals with that game to be played tonight in Dangan.

In the other side of the draw, UL and Carlow IT are safely through after overcoming Cork opposition on Tuesday evening.
