WATCH: January phone call helped Ryan pick football over travel

Niamh Ryan played a pivotal role in Limerick’s All-Ireland Final win but it could have been a different story if she had opted to travel as was her plan at the start of the year.

However, a phone call from Ladies Football manager John Ryan persuaded the centre back to throw her lot in with his side in 2018.

Ryan won an All-Ireland Intermediate Camogie title in 2014 and now has a football medal to add to her collection. A wise decision to play football this year.

“I don’t think it was my intention to go and play football initially. I took the break from camogie to go travelling. Next thing April came along and I was absolutely hooked.

“I didn’t go anywhere for June, July and August. At the end of August a few of my friends asked me did I regret not going travelling? On a day like today, how could you regret anything. It’s fantastic.”
