Glenroe succumbed to defeat in last year’s Premier Intermediate SHC semi-final to eventual champions Mungret/St Pauls.
Glenroe will be looking to improve on last year’s championship as they dust themselves off for an exciting opener against Cappamore.
The south Limerick club, who are yet to reach the final of the competition since it began in 2014, will hope to have learned from their last campaign as they were just one game away from reaching the final.
With a new-look format to this year’s edition, teams will play seven group games and Glenroe’s Maurice Kelly acknowledges the room for error, but is hopeful of a good start regardless.
“There is a certain amount of forgiveness if you don’t get a great start, but preparations have been going well and were determined to have a good start and set ourselves up for a successful year ahead.”
To boost Glenroe’s chances of a successful season, they will also welcome David McCarthy back to their ranks, who was a part of the Limerick All Ireland winning panel. Kelly was full of praise for the goalkeeper and his family who are well involved with the club.
“David (McCarthy) is a great player, he’s got great credit to him to make it onto such a stiff competition of a panel.”
“It’s great to have someone like that and a family like that involved in the club, it’s a great credit to him for all his success so far.”
Glenroe take on Newcastle West this Friday in Feenagh at 7pm in the first round of the Limerick Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship.
