FAI postpone entire weekend SSE Airtricity League schedule due to adverse weather

Limerick FC’s Airtricity League Premier Division clash with Shamrock Rovers scheduled for Saturday evening has been postponed as Met Eireann have issued a status red weather warning for Leinster and Munster for Thursday and Friday. With the closure of schools and colleges as well as some work venues in Limerick, it was inevitable that the FAI would follow suit for the safety of players, officials and supporters travelling to the game.

A statement released this afternoon from the FAI read;

“The Football Association of Ireland can confirm that all games scheduled to take place in the SSE Airtricity League this weekend have been postponed. Following a detailed monitoring process, where the FAI worked closely with all clubs, it was decided to postpone all games in the Premier and First Divisions due to current severe weather conditions and future forecasts from Met Eireann.”

All games have been rescheduled for Monday March 19th which is the bank holiday Monday following St. Patricks Day. The Limerick game is likely to take place at 7.45 pm at the Markets Field.

Furthermore, Limerick FC have assured supporters who have already purchased tickets for Saturday’s game that the tickets will be valid for the re-arranged Shamrock Rovers fixture. However, the option of a full refund is available once the club are contacted at the email address below. The Limerick FC statement read;

“Those who have purchased tickets online for the game should e-mail tickets@limerickfc.ie if you require a refund. Already-purchased tickets will remain valid for the refixed date.”

Also, Limerick FC’s match against Cork City originally scheduled for St. Patricks Day, March 17th with a 6.30 pm start, has been changed to the Friday evening, March 16th (kick-off 7.45 pm).
