Breifne Earley leaves role as Limerick FC General Manager

New Limerick FC General Manager Breifne Earley has sensationally departed the club despite only being appointed last Thursday to the role. Pat O’Sullivan revealed that Earley had taken up the role late last week.

He released a brief statement on his own Twitter account which detailed the departure and revealed that he had been acting on behalf of a US based company who were looking to invest in Limerick FC. Below is the statement from Earley which details his arrival at the club. He continues by stating that talks between Limerick FC and the US based company had broken down and he was leaving the role with immediate effect.

With just six weeks to go until the start of the Airtricity League First Division season, the news will come as a blow. Manager Tommy Barrett is currently working off a shoestring budget and a possible takeover would have ensured that the club’s financial troubles would ease significantly.

Limerick have lost the services of captain Shane Duggan and Cian Coleman from last season with many others seeking employment elsewhere such as Danny Morrissey who is with the PFAI squad currently.

Barrett has signed 13 players so far including Conor Ellis, Sean Russell, Will Fitzgerald and Karl O’Sullivan. Experienced centre back Robbie Williams has returned from Galway while goalkeepers Jack Brady and Tommy Holland will fight it out for a starting place.

Limerick’s opening league fixture is at home to Longford Town on Friday February 22nd. However, the location of that match has become unclear in recent weeks with rumours that the club will not be playing at the Markets Field in 2019.
