WATCH: Williams Pleased with Pike Display

Pike Rovers advanced to the last 64 of the FAI Junior Cup on Sunday afternoon at the expense of Ballynanty Rovers. The Hoops were 2-0 victors at Limerick Institute of Technology thanks to goals from Steven McGann and Conor Kavanagh from the penalty spot.

Player-manager Robbie Williams made his first appearance at centre-back for the club next to the vastly experienced Pat Mullins and was happy with the way his side controlled the game.

“The first half was gritty and it wasn’t what we wanted as we wanted to play a lot more football. We ground it out. Connor Ellis and Red (Kieran Hanlon) are good players and we had to keep them quiet. In the second half we got on the ball a lot more and the lads in midfield started to dictate the game and it was in our hands.”
