Colaiste Na Trocaire will be looking to claim the first ever title at the grade after the All-Ireland series was introduced this year.

“It will be a great occasion for the school”

Cian O’Carroll (cOLAISTE NA TROCAIRE RATHKEALE)

Colaiste Na Trocaire Rathkeale will contest the All-Ireland Post Primary School’s D Hurling Final this Thursday afternoon when they meet Lucan CBS in the Laois Offaly ETB Centre of Excellence at 1.30pm.

The Rathkeale school captured the Munster title with an exceptional win over Scoil Mhuire Gan Smal Blarney earlier this year after a hard-fought 0-19 to 1-15 result.

They followed that with their best performance to date as they put Mercy College Woodford to the sword in the All-Ireland semi-final winning by 20 points to book their place in the Thursday decider.

Path to the Final

  • Round 1: Beat Scoil Phobal Roscrea 1-23 to 2-16
  • Quarter Final: Beat Colaiste Mhuire Durlas 1-16 to 2-10
  • Semi Final: Beat Mercy Mounthawk 1-16 to 0-14
  • Final: Beat Scoil Mhuire Gan Smal Blarney 0-19 to 1-15
  • All-Ireland Semi Final : Beat Mercy College Woodford 3-22 to 1-8

Colaiste Na Trocaire will be looking to claim the first ever title at the grade after the All-Ireland series was introduced at the D level this year. Their opponents, Lucan CBS booked their place in the decider with a 3-15 to 1-17 win over Gaelcholáiste Dhoire ten days ago. That followed an epic provincial final where they needed extra-time to see off Gallen Community school 2-18 to 1-20.

CNT’s coach Robert McNamara has been impressed with his side’s development throughout the campaign as they aim to finish the job on Thursday afternoon.

“It’s gonna stand to us, coming out of Munster the way we have. It is standing to us, we went out in the semi-final and didn’t take anything for granted. the boys went out and gave an unbelievable performance.”

“It’s been a super journey but it’s not over yet. We want to finish the job.”

It has already been an incredible year for the school who reached the Munster Football final also where they fell just short. Likewise, Castletroy College and Salesians Pallaskenry were unsuccessful in Munster Hurling Finals.

But led by team captain, Cian O’Carroll, who was yesterday named in the star-studded Limerick U20 squad, they are now just an hour from capturing All-Ireland hurling honours to go with their provincial title.

Colaiste Na Trocaire Rathkeale face Lucan CBS in the Masita GAA Post Primary Schools Senior D Hurling final on Thursday March 16th at 1.30pm in the LOETB Centre of Exellence.
