Treaty United picked up an important 2-0 win at home to Finn Harps on Friday evening, moving them within just two points of the playoff positions.

While the Shannonsiders will be delighted with their surge up the table, they will have to pull off a miracle to reach the top five, as their remaining games are against champions Galway United, and second placed Waterford.

However, this Treaty side have shown they love to be underdogs, and always seem to deliver when the pressure is on.

Their latest victory was crucial, as they locked horns with Finn Harps for the fourth time this season.

Tommy Barrett’s men lost two of the previous meetings this year, winning the other, and Friday evening saw another three points come their way.

The sides went in level at the break, but it didn’t take long in the second-half before Adam Lennon was brought down in the box, earning his side a penalty.

Captain Marc Ludden stepped up to make it 3/3 from the spot for him this season, pulling out his signature “chicken dance” in celebration.

Just ten minutes later Treaty had their second, forward Dean George flicking on a corner with a near post header to give his side comfort in the tie.

The result boosted the Shannonsiders up to sixth, and they will now need to weather the remaining tough fixtures and hope Athlone slip up.

Treaty United welcome Galway United to the Markets Field this Saturday, with kick-off at 3pm.
