Aisling Annacotty AFC’s Director of Football Pat Burke, sat down with Sporting Limerick this week to discuss the clubs future in light of their new ‘Director of Coaching’ roll. The position will be filled by former Limerick FC manager Mike Hurley who along with Burke will cultivate a bright future for the Limerick club.
“It’s a huge step forward for us in terms of our footballing strategy in what we’ve identified the role of ‘Director of Coaching’, so that’s a big commitment from the club in terms of what we want to do as a club developing”
Burke’s approach to the clubs future remains calculated, putting frameworks in place to ensure the clubs stability will hopefully foster success in the future. Elements like a promising underage set-up is key in regards to both Hurley and Burke’s future plans for the club.
The role itself is to look at what were doing in terms of how we grow in the next generation, so we’ve put a lot of effort into developing teams and coaches over the last four or five years”
Aisling Annacotty AFC is also focused on the women’s game with a large ladies presence within their senior and underage set-ups, the future success that the club is working towards undoubtedly includes success within ladies football also.
“The senior ladies are playing, the under 15’s, the under 17’s and it’s fantastic to see huge crowds coming out to watch those”
Both Burke and Hurley are avid that the efforts that are going toward’s the success of Aisling Annacotty AFC are not to be mistaken as efforts to benefit larger clubs. Burke outlines that if the players they’re developing do achieve success in the near future it will hopefully be in Aisling Annacotty colours.
Can we build that sustainability and can we fend off the likes of Treaty United who are coming to take our players… I think we can, I think we’re building that platform.”
