Cian Lynch named July’s PwC/GPA Hurler of the Month

Lynch was back in time for the semi-final against Galway where he took the game to the Tribesmen when all around him wasn’t quite going to plan.

Following a sublime duo of Croke Park performances in the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship series, Cian Lynch has been named the PwC/GPA Hurler of the Month for July.

A monstrous performance from Cian Lynch in the All-Ireland semi-final has seen him win the PwC GAA/GPA July Player of the Month. Lynch was instrumental from the middle of the park with a point against Galway.

The Patrickswell native was named as the Hurler of the Week in the wake of the All-Ireland final as Limerick claimed a fourth successive title.

He went on to lift the Liam MacCarthy Cup in Declan Hannon’s absence, playing a captain’s role in the semi and final.

The two-time Hurler of the Year struggled for fitness in the early stages of the season and didn’t feature in the Munster final but he was back in time for the semi-final against Galway where he took the game to the Tribesmen when all around him wasn’t quite going to plan.

In the second half, Limerick found their rhythm and led by Lynch from the start for the first time in the championship, secured their place in a fourth successive All-Ireland final.

Again, Lynch was on it from the beginning in the final, chipping over a brace of points as Limerick eventually got to grips with the Cats before securing a comfortable victory.

Lynch has brought that form into the club championships where he helped Patrickswell to a round one win over Na Piarsaigh last Friday night. This evening, they meet Doon in Kilmallock as they look to move atop the SHC group one table.

The PwC GPA Women’s Player of the Month and PwC GAA/GPA Players of the Month Award winners are voted for by the GPA’s membership.
