Fairview and Regional earn victories in Limerick Premier Division

Fairview Rangers picked up a comprehensive victory over newly promoted Mungret Regional on Thursday evening in the Limerick District League Premier Division.

The Fairgreen outfit won 4-0 and two of last season’s top performers in James Fitzgerald and Ross Mann got off the mark with goals. New signing Jason Lipper, who arrived from Aisling Annacotty during the summer, bagged two goals on his debut for Jason Purcell’s men.

Regional United got their season off to the perfect start as they came from behind to beat Mike Aherne’s Aisling Annacotty side 2-1. New signing Mark McGrath gave Annacotty the lead but second half goals from David Cowpar and Tommy Frawley provided the Dooradoyle outfit with the win.

In the final game of the first round of fixtures, Coonagh and Prospect Priory played out an entertaining 2-2 draw. Prospect raced into a 2 goal lead with both Philip Naughton and Trevor Hogan scoring. However, John Spillane’s men showed great character to come back with goals from Will Brick and Joey Sheahan.

There are 5 fixtures down for decision on Sunday morning with 10.30 kick offs. Geraldines host Pike Rovers at the Garryowen Green while Regional host Mungret Regional at Dooradoyle. Janesboro will entertain Aisling Anancotty and Ballynanty host Coonagh at Limerick Institute of Technology. Fairview Rangers will be looking to build on a good start when they travel to face Prospect. Kilmallock and Nenagh face off on Saturday evening with a 6.30 kick-off.
