Former USA international Jay DeMerit to visit Treaty United

Jay’s sporting story is an inspirational insight into a career which was subject of the 2011 independent film, Rise and Shine: The Jay DeMerit Story.

Treaty United will welcome a special visit from former USA international and Premier League star, Jay DeMerit, as the Limerick-based team looks to build on the new season’s exciting momentum.

Jay will visit Limerick this week and take in the SSE Airtricity League of Ireland First Division game between Treaty United and Bray Wanderers at the Markets Field on Friday, March 8th.

Jay’s sporting story is an inspirational insight into a career which was subject of the 2011 independent film, Rise and Shine: The Jay DeMerit Story.

This was based on his rise from the ninth tier of soccer in England to the Premier League and FIFA World Cup. Jay overcame significant setbacks, including MLS draft rejection and failure to get professional contracts after he moved to England, to reach the pinnacle of football’s pyramid playing in the English Premier League and the FIFA World Cup.

As Treaty Men hope to make it four-out-of-four and the Women start their first league match next week, Jay will give a talk on how he overcame that adversity to players in the Treaty United Carelon Academy, senior players and staff when he visits Limerick.

Prior to finally fulfilling his dream as a professional footballer, Jay was a designer and when Treaty United decided to go Back to Blue with the home kit, CEO Ciara McCormack contacted Jay to get him to design the new kit.

Jay’s design not only brought back the iconic blue colours but linked the club strongly with its community roots in Limerick and represented the club’s values of Community, Integrity and Excellence.

“As we move into a new era with Treaty United and establishing our core values as a club, Jay’s
story of resilience, character, and work ethic really resonated with the kind of person we wanted
our players to look up to. As a bonus he also is an incredible designer, so when we needed to
come up with a design for our 2024 jersey, Jay was my first port of call. We’re delighted with the jersey he helped bring together and excited to welcome him to Limerick to share his story with
our fans, sponsors, players, coaches and volunteers.”

Jay is looking forward to meeting Treaty United club members, the club’s academy players and sharing his inspirational career story and his thoughts behind his design of the club’s new kits: the iconic blue home kit, the newly revealed away kit and the upcoming 3rd kit.
