Limerick defeat Waterford to seal Munster U20 Football Semi-Final Place

Limerick held out a spirited Waterford side down the stretch to seal their spot in next week’s provincial semi-final with Cork.

The Limerick U20s booked their place in the Munster U20 Football semi-final with a 2-6 to 0-6 win over Waterford in Ballyagran this afternoon.

Second half goals from Aaron Neville and David O’Shaughnessy pushed Shane Kelly’s men over the line after a spirited performance from the Deise.

Indeed, it was the visitors that took the lead in the 46th minute, Alan Dunwoody swinging over to move Waterford 0-6 to 0-5 in front with their third successive score.

The next score was the crucial first goal, O’Shaughnessy collecting a long delivery from Zack McCarthy, rounding the keeper and slotting into an empty net.

Ten minutes later Neville put the game beyond doubt with a fine solo effort which was the next score after the O’Shaughnessy green flag.

Emmet Rigter rounded out the scoring with a well taken point, capping a fine personal performance and sealing their place in the semi-final against Cork next Monday.

Ronan Quirke opened the scoring in Ballyagran after five minutes with O’Shaughnessy and Darragh Murray frees exchanged with scores from the visitors as a cagey opening half ended at 0-3 apiece.

O’Shaughnessy kickstarted the second-half points, taking a nice mark which was then added to by a 45′ from the same man. But three unanswered followed from the Deise before Limerick reeled them in.
